Australia - Nov. 5
Australia - Nov. 4
Lots of beaches along the way are a surfers paradise so it's difficult for swimming but with the oceans baths they have built up area like a swimming pool around it and another one for the children and it's so cool. We have driven for 5 and a half hours, longest day today and all we don't have the strength so supper was a bowl of the best tasting cereal with milk we've ever had for supper. Instead of paying for a camp stop, we went for free parking along the beach but no shows etc. *Sigh* I'm too old for this.

Australia, Hold onto your sox. Spoiled Rotten is coming down under to rock your world.
Halloween...Well life is never dull here at Spoiled Rotten B&B. “We're” off on another adventure to tour the land down under and tell everyone why their next adventure should be to come to Ottawa in 2017 to help us celebrate our 150th anniversary. Ottawa is going all out for all 12 months of action packed fun. And of course when they come to the capital, they will need a place to stay that's cozy and crazy. Oh if only I knew a place to recommend. So hard, racking my brain? Oh ya, that new place that opened just over 2 years ago and already, her rooms are as busy through the week as they are the weekends. Already I have my first interested guest from Vancouver. She took the picture of the postcard but I wouldn't be a bit surprised if a business card somehow makes its way to her bag. Surprise!!!
I know it's going to be busier than last year because the majority of the reservations are from MY website and less from Airbnb (which kept me afloat for the first two years), BBCANADA, TripAdvisor, Ottawa Tourism, and about 14 other free places that I advertise this boutique 5 star (yes I'm very proud of that distinction) Ottawa accommodation. I'm not typically a destination but more and more families, especially in Orleans are looking to rent a whole house and all stay together. It doesn't hurt that they receive a huge breakfast that probably acts as lunch and they are spoiled to death...Ok maybe not death...Maybe just Spoiled Rotten.
I cannot believe how busy this summer was. I feel sorry for the last few guests...I tried to give my best but I was beyond pooped. I can't wait for some blessedly quiet days so the renovations can begin.
The shower that I had removed in the master bedroom to replace with the most romantic two person deep soaker tub bubble bath just isn't cutting it with the shower gangs that come thru my doors.
The friends who travel together love the crazy twin bed decor but aren't too happy to not have a bathroom. That is my goal this “slow” season coming up.
The flight was packed but imagine my delight when I went for a walk to the back and realized it was nearly empty. People closer to the front were 10 sardines across but people in the back had 5 seats each to sleep. Once I relocated to a rear bulkhead empty row which I later found out was empty was because the arm rests are permanently up.
I have a drill Sargeant of a daughter who calculates when I can nap and ì follow it to a tea, even when the flight gets delayed. When I had to stay awake everyone was sleeping but sleep time eluded me. The plane is alive at 4:40 am and the skies surprisingly light. INSERT PIC. Here we have The Simpsons shot in reverse. Saw some turquoise green land masses that tell me scuba diving is going to be spectacular. Or maybe it's just a pretty oil spill.
I checked out the fish market today and the Darling Point Bridge. Checked out the famous Opera House, Sydney Harbour and the underside of the bridge so we didn't have to pay to be strapped in. Saw Luna Park but didn't go in and we went to Bondi Beach. Gawd its dead or the summer is steamy hot here. The beaches here are so gorgeous and all sand! Of course it's sand. What else would it be? Sand is everybody’s dream but not mine. What was I thinking?! www.spoiledrottenbnb.ca

Trends Over the Years
When you first open a business, you will bend over backwards to be successful and get business. I took every single booking I could get my hands on. You learn lots over the years and belong to the online B&B support groups and they tell you what not to tolerate. So here I am 2 1/2 years later and I am still doing everything the same, exactly the same....I have to. I have called my business Spoiled Rotten and you don't have that moniker without taking in everyone and doing most everything. It's a crazy world I live in.
Thank God the universe has thrown me a few compassionate bones to change my business especially since I am not a destination, and I live in the burbs. The first year I had all one nighters....SOOO much work! Last year I had more two nighters. This summer past I enjoyed full house rentals, and LOTS of them, one for 5 nights and that was a long long time to share your house. It was the culture shock. I'm even thinking about foregoing the workshops in the quiet season for one month room rentals. Finally met a couple who hinted they might want to rent my space in the quiet season for five months and travel the world the rest. I could live with them but not most. Pity I can't rent the place while I am gone but insurance would disown me.
Had the best family every stay with me. They were high level professionals from the Fillipines and, suprisingly, every single member from there and Saudi, spoke perfect English. They were such a delight. I can't even imagine having a family of seven and every single one of them as a professional.
In with this I will end this post unfinished. More to come.

CULTURE SHOCK AT THE B&B
I knew I would not survive converting mostly because of the heavy clothes so suddenly, running the bed and breakfast alone did not seem like such a burden and I will be grateful for what I have. I feel so privileged to have spent this week with them, sharing cultures and faiths.
Getting back into the Swing of Things after the winter dry spell. Spring 2016!
My neck was hurting so I knew if I went to bed, it would relax and all would be well in the universe. I slept like a log and woke up TWICE to use the bathroom. Gotta stop drinking water so late. The third time, I decided to look at the time....11:30pm. Huh? I don't understand. What day is it? It's dark outside but that doesn't help. I had muted my phone for the night and there were 13 important texts I had ignored for the entire day which is unheard of. My phone is always with me. I backtracked and saw that I hadn't brushed my teeth yet. Weird. I went downstairs and saw the curtains weren't shut for the night. I am hungry so maybe I didn't eat supper. My late day medication is untouched. I have some unfinished work on my laptop and finally I cracked the code. I look into history when this was last saved and it was 4:30pm when I must have lay down for a power nap. I slept for SEVEN!!!! hours and woke up the same day before midnight. I'm hooped, aren't I? Great way to start March.
The funny part about this post is it was written in spring as the season was gearing up to be very very busy. I forgot to post it and now the next post is the season is over with. Dang! Am I going to have to fill in the blanks? Not going to happen.

Long Weekend In the Off Season; on Germs, 2 Night stays and Breakfast on Time- March 10th 2016
I belong to a number of online groups for all the other B&B owners and I'm learning thru them -I have to for the one nighter issue. I am the queen of one night stands... that can't be taken the wrong way, can it? Is it time to join the B&B owner and learning from the school of hard knocks and change my ways? Seven of the longest months of my life, changing beds daily from people who stayed ONLY one night. Now most other seasoned owners have a two night minimum but new entrepreneurs don't have the guts to be that hard lined. I'm torn. It's a lot of work for one night but I also like the coming and going of frequent travelers. I haven’t been open long enough to feel comfortable enough to say, "two night minimum, ya bums," like the veterans do it but I finally get it. Maybe a dollar value off each additional night they stay? Imagine, having a full house, and at 11 am, they all leave, and three hours later, I have to have cleaned up the breakfast feast, changed all the beds, cleaned all the bathrooms and vacuumed to be ready for 2pm. If a particularly long haired woman has stayed, I also need to de-hair the place and especially the shower. I almost have collected enough to clone another human being. And I can't tell you how much I love vacuuming daily.
